Meet Dr. Adam Huillet

Experienced in Development. Focused on Your Child.

I'm Adam Huillet, MD, a board-certified developmental pediatrician with over 20 years of experience caring for children and familes.

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with children with a wide range of developmental, behavioral, learning, and emotional needs. I've practiced in academic medical centers, large healthcare systems, and military medicine, and I've worked with families from many different backgrounds and cultures.

Those experiences have shaped the way I practice today.

I believe that children deserve to be understood as individuals—and that families deserve the time, expertise, and guidance necessary to understand their children.

That belief is the foundation of PEAK Developmental Pediatrics.

Why Developmental Pediatrics?

Developmental pediatrics sits at the intersection of medicine, development, behavior, learning, and family life.

What looks like an attention problem may actually involve learning, anxiety, sleep, language, executive functioning, or a combination of factors.

A child struggling at school may need more than a diagnosis. Their family may need help understanding why they're struggling and what can actually make a difference.

I chose developmental pediatrics because I enjoy solving these complex problems—and because I believe that understanding a child is often the first step toward helping that child thrive.

A Career Focused on Children and Families

Over three decades in medicine, I've cared for children in a variety of settings and circumstances.

My experience has included:

  • Developmental and behavioral pediatrics

  • Academic medicine and medical education

  • Pediatric leadership

  • Military medicine

  • Complex developmental and behavioral conditions

  • Care coordination with families, schools, and other professionals

  • Teaching and mentoring physicians in training

These experiences have taught me that there is rarely a single explanation for a child's challenges.

The best developmental care begins by listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, and looking at the whole child.

Medicine, Leadership, and Service

My career in military medicine gave me opportunities to care for children and families in circumstances very different from traditional pediatric practice.

As Chief of Pediatrics at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, I helped lead pediatric care during the evacuation of families from Afghanistan.

That experience reinforced something I had learned throughout my career:

Children are resilient, families are remarkably strong, and good medical care begins with understanding the person in front of you.

Working with families from different cultures and backgrounds also deepened my appreciation for the many ways families understand health, development, disability, and their children's futures.

Those experiences continue to influence how I approach every family I see.

The Teacher in Me

I have always believed that medicine is also about teaching.

Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to teach medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing clinicians.

Teaching has made me a better physician because it requires me to continually ask:

How can I explain this clearly?

That's also how I approach conversations with parents.

Developmental pediatrics can involve complicated concepts, terminology, and diagnoses. My job isn't simply to tell you what I think is happening.

My job is to help you understand it.

Why I Created PEAK

After decades in medicine, I wanted to create a practice that allowed me to provide developmental care the way I believe it should be provided.

That meant creating a practice where there is:

Time to Listen

Families have time to tell their child's story without feeling rushed.

Time to Think

Complex developmental concerns deserve thoughtful consideration rather than a quick conclusion.

Time to Explain

Parents deserve clear answers and the opportunity to ask questions.

Time to Plan

An evaluation should lead to practical next steps—not simply a diagnosis.

PEAK Developmental Pediatrics was created around those principles.

My Approach to Your Child

Every child has strengths.

Every child has challenges.

And every child develops within the context of a family, school, community, and culture.

When I evaluate a child, I want to understand all of those pieces.

I ask:

What are this child's strengths?

Where are they struggling?

What is getting in the way of their success?

What does the family see at home?

What does the school see?

What does the developmental history tell us?

What can we do to help?

The goal is not to fit a child into a diagnostic category.

The goal is to use our understanding of development to help that child and family move forward.

What Families Can Expect From Me

You can expect me to listen carefully.

You can expect me to be honest when the answer isn't straightforward.

You can expect me to explain my thinking.

You can expect me to consider your child's strengths as well as their challenges.

And you can expect me to work with you to develop a plan that is practical, individualized, and focused on your child's needs.

I don't believe parents should have to become medical experts to advocate effectively for their children.

My role is to provide the expertise.

Your role is to know your child.

The best care happens when we bring those two things together.

Beyond the Office

Medicine has given me the opportunity to live and work in different parts of the world and to care for families from many different backgrounds.

Those experiences have reinforced my belief that there is no single definition of what a healthy, successful, or happy childhood looks like.

Families bring their own values, experiences, cultures, and hopes for their children.

I respect that.

My goal is to understand what matters to your family and incorporate that perspective into your child's care.

Why PEAK?

Potential. Empowerment. Advocacy. Knowledge.

These four ideas capture what I hope PEAK represents.

Potential

Every child has the capacity to grow, learn, and develop.

Empowerment

Understanding your child gives you greater ability to support them.

Advocacy

Children deserve appropriate support at home, at school, and within the healthcare system.

Knowledge

Good decisions begin with good information.

Together, these principles guide the way I practice.

Let's Get to Know Your Child

If you're concerned about your child's development, attention, learning, behavior, or social communication, you don't have to navigate those questions alone.

My role is to help you understand your child, make sense of your concerns, and identify a path forward.

I look forward to meeting you and learning your child's story.
